Terry Crews toxic masculinity:

Terry Crews decided to share an example of what he sees as toxic masculinity through the social media of Twitter when he spoke out about how his father used to beat his mother. From what I have read I think that Terry Crews sees Toxic Masculinity as when men take advantage of being the stronger and more dominant of both sexes which often resolves to being a controller of other people. this is shown in this example with how his father used his power to control and hurt Terrys mother.

“My father,” he wrote.

And toxicity is when he was punching my mother in the face. Next question?

within a news video Terry Crews speaks out about how he was assaulted by a very well known man high-profile agent Adam Venit at a party. He then went on to express how he felt at the time of the assault and said that he would have retaliated with violence, Crews said that he knew if he had thrown a punch the agent’s way, “everyone in that room could make a phone call to every movie studio in the world: ‘Well, you know about Terry,’ and they’d believe them. [Pushing back] is not an option. It just isn’t. I got too much to lose. This is what toxic masculinity is. People think, ‘Look how big you are, look how strong you are. If I was you, I would’ve killed him.’ But my body’s not for killing. In America, we want to finish the movie. And the movie, if you’re a man, is ‘Dirty Harry,’” he said, however he knew that if he had done that he would have ended up as the villain in as a big man like him would mediately have been seen as a thug and would have been labelled as a violent man, again this links back to how men are seen in our society and how because of their strength and big build and the fact that they are more of the stronger sex, when acting to defend themselves they can often be seen as monsters and violent characters even though they are the victims of a much worse crime. this made me think of how your image and build can already influence others on the way you might act or the person you are without personally knowing them, which shows to me how shallow and judgemental our society is and how much it needs to change for a balanced and equal relationship through all genders and types of people. Although social media can help to create the stereotypical ways of viewing people it has also been a platform for Terry Crews and a way for him to share his story, the fact that he is able to do this shows that although he may not be believed by some, which he also stares in his interview, as he is a man and in the view of other people a man should be able to take care of themselves and should avoid assault where as women are seen as the more weaker and are more reliable to being harassed, he is making aware that it happens and it happens to men even in the most high class of places with the most well known of people showing that anyone can be a victim.
